Level 2 Certification

You’ve finished Level 1, now what? Level 2 of course! The Level 2 Certification is for inline and quad skaters that have already earned their Level 1 certification and have been teaching for at least a year. This program brings you into a true leadership role as you’ll develop the skills to teach at a higher level with specific training to help you teach large groups, students of varying skating abilities, kids, those with special needs, and across a wider variety of learning styles.

“Skate IA helps bring the real love of skating to the community. From the people involved to the culture it has created, Skate IA is a gift to us all who are looking to build up our communities and skate programs.”

    • Inline or quad skates - brake not required

    • Helmet

    • Wrist guards - knee and elbow pads optional

  • Level 2 now offers two distinct certifications:
    (A) Mastery of the Classroom and (B) Advanced Skill Development.

    2A. Mastery of the Classroom

This is an in‑person course designed for groups of four or more candidates. It focuses on the real‑world challenges that instructors commonly face. We’ve identified 12 core classroom issues—such as managing large groups, handling wide variations in skill level, working with participants who are required to attend but may not be motivated, and teaching students who are non‑English or non‑native speakers—along with eight additional challenges.

Each candidate will identify their top two instructional challenges, and the group will then vote to select up to five issues to practice through role‑playing sessions. Because the emphasis is on developing classroom management strategies rather than learning new skating skills, participants will work with basic techniques (like stopping) to simulate real scenarios. Candidates will receive structured teaching scenarios, practice delivering instruction, discuss effective approaches for overcoming each challenge, and teach again to build confidence and mastery in navigating difficult teaching situations. Each candidate will teach a class at the end of the day to intend to pass this course at 85% or better.

    2B. Advanced Technical Skills (ATS)

The ATS program is offered in person or online (online version launching Spring 2026). We’ve created six progressive skill levels, ranging from Balance Basics to Master Edge Training, incorporating both recreational and artistic skills depending on the level.

Every Certified Level 1 Instructor will receive complimentary 2‑week online access to the first two levels—Balance Basics and Striding and Gliding. Each ATS level includes multi‑angle video demonstrations, step‑by‑step breakdowns, and guidance on common errors. It also features our Building Blox™, a library of 25+ foundational skills used to prepare skaters for more advanced movements (for example, mastering one‑foot glides before progressing to Intermediate Stride).

After the initial two free levels, each additional level will have an associated fee (pricing to be announced closer to release). Participants may choose to complete the ATS solely for learning, or, if they wish to pursue certification, they can submit video demonstrations of their skills to an Examiner for evaluation.

  • PAYMENT AND WAIVERS

The program must be fully paid for and waivers signed prior to the start of the cert. No exceptions.

    SHOWING UP

Candidates must attend all session hours. This is not negotiable so please make all arrangements ahead of time.

    GEAR

Safety is a key component of our certs and likewise, our insurance coverage requires it.

    TESTING

In order to pass your certification, you need at least an 85% in each:

    • Written test on theory and methods

    • Skating Skills test

    • Teaching test

    REFUNDS

Once you register, we offer no refunds. However, you have two years to complete your certification–whether attending another in-person or online certification. Anyone cancelling within seven days may forfeit the certification funds in full as in-person programs are set based on a necessary number of attendees.

    INCOMPLETE CERTS

Stuff happens, and we encourage you to work with your Examiner to complete your certification. If you failed in any of the three testing areas, your Examiner will work with you on your options. We will endeavor to assist you in completing your certification, however, it is not required that we do so.

    INSURANCE

Insurance is included to people in the USA who have completed their certification. You must also be SafeSport certified to be insured. You will have a Certificate of Insurance created in your name.

Certificates of Insurance that come with your membership cannot be modified in any way. If you are planning to teach at events/locations that require their name to be put on the certificate, you may purchase additional insurance from us that will allow you to add specifics to your certificate.
