Level 1: Core Certification

It All Starts Here

Our Core Certification is designed for both quad and inline skaters who are either new to teaching or experienced instructors seeking a proven method to deliver safe, effective skate classes.

In this program, you’ll learn the SkateIA Teaching Model, a structured approach that empowers you to break down any skating move into clear, easy-to-understand steps—ensuring your students succeed regardless of skill level or learning style.

We now offer certifications both in-person and online!

What’s New for 2026

After extensive feedback from pilot programs, SkateIA has redesigned our Certification Program to make learning more accessible and impactful. The updated structure breaks down large volumes of information into manageable segments and provides more opportunities for practical teaching experience.

Level 1: Core Certification

Core Certification equips skaters to teach skating fundamentals—regardless of discipline.

Teaching Skills Covered: V-Walk, Striding, Stopping, Backwards, Turns, Transitions.

Quick Overview of the Certification Program

Hybrid In‑Person Certification Includes:

  • Online Self‑Study (6–10 hours):
    Access our easy‑to‑use learning platform with guided modules designed to build a strong foundation before your in‑person session.

  • Comprehensive Training Manual:
    A 30‑page resource filled with practical, actionable information, callouts, diagrams, and clear, easy‑to‑digest content. Also includes templates for lesson plans, cheat sheet and score cards.

  • Best‑Practices Slide Deck:
    A detailed slideshow that breaks down effective teaching strategies through a lens of scientific understanding.

  • Instructional Video Library:
    Six step‑by‑step videos demonstrating how to simultaneously teach quad and inline skaters using the Introduction, Teaching Model, and Closure frameworks for all class types.

  • In‑Person Certification: (For In-Person Certification Only)
    A full day dedicated to hands‑on skill development. You’ll learn how to teach each technique, then practice delivering instruction with fellow candidates under expert guidance. Candidates will take online written test prior to certification and testing for skills and teaching will occur at the end of the day.

  • Online Certification: (For Online Certification Only)
    Two, 2 hour+ sessions on zoom with your Examiner You’ll learn how to teach each technique, then practice delivering instruction with fellow candidates under expert guidance. Candidates will take an online written test and submit videos on skills and teaching test.

After completing your certification, you’ll gain access to the first two levels of our Advanced Technical Skills course. These resources include a comprehensive four-week Learn-to-Skate program, designed to help you start teaching immediately.

In-Person

$395 - Insurance included!

In Person certifications are available in North America, South America, and Europe. Each session includes one full day of on-skates training and testing (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM).

Pre-Course Requirement:

Participants must complete the required online self-study before attending the in-person session.

Program Structure

- Self-Study: Up to 10 hours of reading and video-based learning prior to the course
- Teaching Practice: One full day of in-person, on skate’s skill review and teaching breakdown
- Testing: Written, skills, and teaching evaluations

Skills and teaching ability will be assessed during the in-person session to ensure readiness and competency.

Program Structure
