Level 1: Core Certification
It All Starts Here
Our Core Certification is designed for both quad and inline skaters who are either new to teaching or experienced instructors seeking a proven method to deliver safe, effective skate classes.
In this program, you’ll learn the SkateIA Teaching Model, a structured approach that empowers you to break down any skating move into clear, easy-to-understand steps—ensuring your students succeed regardless of skill level or learning style.
We now offer certifications both in-person and online!
What’s New for 2026
After extensive feedback from pilot programs, SkateIA has redesigned our Certification Program to make learning more accessible and impactful. The updated structure breaks down large volumes of information into manageable segments and provides more opportunities for practical teaching experience.
Level 1: Core Certification
Core Certification equips skaters to teach skating fundamentals—regardless of discipline.

V-Walk
Basic Stride
Stopping
Backward Skating
Parallel Turns
Transitions
After completing your certification, you’ll gain access to the first two levels of our Advanced Technical Skills course. These resources include a comprehensive four-week Learn-to-Skate program, designed to help you start teaching immediately.

In-Person
$395 - Insurance included!
In Person certifications are available in North America, South America, and Europe. Each session includes one full day of on-skates training and testing (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
Pre-Course Requirement:
Participants must complete the required online self-study before attending the in-person session.
Program Structure
- Self-Study: Up to 10 hours of reading and video-based learning prior to the course
- Teaching Practice: One full day of in-person, on skate’s skill review and teaching breakdown
- Testing: Written, skills, and teaching evaluations
Skills and teaching ability will be assessed during the in-person session to ensure readiness and competency.

Get certified from anywhere in the world! Our online certification combines self-study content—including professionally produced videos—with personal Zoom sessions for feedback and testing with your SkateIA examiner.
This is a one-on-one program, so scheduling is flexible and tailored to your needs. Most candidates complete the process in 10–14 days, and you can start today!

Program Structure
- Self-Study: Up to 10 hours of online learning with videos and reading materials
- Teaching Practice: Two virtual teaching-practice sessions (2.25 hours each) with your examiner
- Testing: Includes an online written test and video submissions (skills videos plus one teaching video demonstrating your ability to instruct a skating skill)

Knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards
Heel brake or toe stops optional

Backwards Skating (pizza walk, stroking, swizzles - teach and demo)

PAYMENT AND WAIVERS
The program must be fully paid for and waivers signed prior to the start of the cert. No exceptions.
SHOWING UP
Candidates must attend all session hours. This is not negotiable so please make all arrangements ahead of time.
GEAR
Safety is a key component of our certs and likewise, our insurance coverage requires it.
TESTING
In order to pass your certification, you need at least an 85% in each:
Written test on theory and methods
Skating Skills test
Teaching test
REFUNDS
Once you register, we offer no refunds. However, you have two years to complete your certification–whether attending another in-person or online certification. Anyone cancelling within seven days may forfeit the certification funds in full as in-person programs are set based on a necessary number of attendees.
INCOMPLETE CERTS
Stuff happens, and we encourage you to work with your Examiner to complete your certification. If you failed in any of the three testing areas, your Examiner will work with you on your options. We will endeavor to assist you in completing your certification, however, it is not required that we do so.
INSURANCE
Insurance is included to people in the USA who have completed their certification. You must also be SafeSport certified to be insured. You will have a Certificate of Insurance created in your name.
Certificates of Insurance that come with your membership cannot be modified in any way. If you are planning to teach at events/locations that require their name to be put on the certificate, you may purchase additional insurance from us that will allow you to add specifics to your certificate.
